ANDY'S STORY

KESWICK • The ‘capital’ of the Lake District falls quiet in winter. But now is not a time for hibernating. The fells are yours, all yours…

The year we made every day count! • EACH OF THE names on this list represents one of the most important people in the world. They were already - each a universe entire. But to this they've added something extraordinary. In the same time available to everyone else, they have lived their lives and walked 1000 miles. And though there are many here (and this is but a fraction of the full extent) there are vanishingly few in the world who can say the same. That they have stood up and counted, ensuring that for whatever else 2022 will be known, it will also have been a year of pleasure and purpose. We salute you.

Not going to finish? No problem - here's why • Thousands are celebrating reaching 1000 miles at this time of year - and you can read many of their stories in next month's 2023 launch edition. But if you AREN'T going to reach 1000, you HAVEN'T failed.

Up the hill, and down the aisle! • They found each other through #walk1000miles, they fell in love while hiking, and now Chris and Laura Jones have completed the most celebrated walk of all – the magical one down the aisle.

That's the way to do it! • Ali Bray and hubby Eric from South Gloucestershire cleverly contrived to finish their 1000 miles right on the roof of South Wales.

Mini challenges, maximum joy! • Every month we set five new mini-challenges to add spice, interest or silliness to your miles – and each issue reveal the latest winners of a money-can't-buy golden badge. Join in for 2023 & it could be you!

Are you ready for 2023? • Sign up for 2023, secure your launch pack, pin your optimism to your chest and get some morale-focusing merch that confirms: we're going to make it awesome, one step at time.
